Pattern tester guide

Thank you for your interest in my sewing patterns!

This page is here to guide you through the process of becoming a pattern tester or simply to help you learn more about the process. If you have any questions that aren’t answered here, feel free to reach out via email at info@silversagapatterns.com.

What is a pattern tester?
A pattern tester is a vital collaborator who tests a sewing pattern and provides feedback to the designer. As a pattern tester, you get early access to new designs and help ensure the patterns and instructions are clear and accurate. It’s a partnership that benefits both the designer and the sewing community.

How does it work?
My patterns are designed in EU34 but welcome testers in all sizes within my range EU34-54 | UK6-26 | US2-24. Patterns are provided in English, using the metric system (centimeters) with conversions to inches. Testers must be fluent in English and have a Facebook account, as the testing process takes place in a private Facebook group. When a new pattern is ready for testing, I will announce it on the the News Page and on Instagram.

How to apply
Follow these two simple steps to apply:
1. Comment on my Instagram post for the pattern testing you’re interested in. This helps me verify your Instagram account.
2. Submit your application through the Pattern Testers Platform.
If selected, you’ll receive an email with instructions to join the testing group within a specific timeframe. Remember to check your spam folder!

Pattern testing timeline
Testing typically lasts 2 weeks:
Day 1-4 Toile (muslin) testing (4 days)
Sew a toile (test garment) using muslin or other affordable fabric. This step helps identify any adjustments needed for the final garment. You don’t need to sew a full-length garment or include details like zippers or overlocked seams for the toile. Make necessary pattern adjustments based on the toile. Make notes of your changes.
Day 5-14: Final garment creation (10 days)
Sew your garment in the final fabric, share detailed feedback, and take high-resolution photos following the provided photo guide. My pattern testers are known for their creative and inspiring photo skills, and this is your opportunity to showcase your final garment in a way that highlights your unique style. Please remember to upload your final feedback and high-resolution photos to the Pattern Testers Platform before the deadline.

How to use each platform
Pattern Testers Platform: Upload your final feedback and high-resolution photos here. This platform is used to complete the testing process. It is not for flagging pattern issues or quick questions.
Facebook Group: This is a space to share your progress, photos, and thoughts with other testers. Use the group to discuss any minor or major issues with the pattern or instructions. Sharing photos and feedback in the Facebook group is always appreciated, but this alone does not complete your testing. You’ll still need to submit your final feedback and photos on the Pattern Testers Platform.

Use of your photos
By participating as a pattern tester, you agree that the photos you provide may be used in Silversaga Patterns marketing materials, such as on Instagram, Facebook, and other promotional platforms. Your photos help inspire other sewists and showcase the versatility and beauty of the pattern. If your photo is shared, you will always be credited for your work, and we’ll tag you on social media whenever possible.

Important guidelines for pattern testers:
- Do not share final photos publicly before the pattern release. Sharing your progress and tagging @silversagapatterns is welcome and appreciated.
- Active participation in the Facebook group is essential. Silent participation often results in incomplete testing and is discouraged.
- Only sign up if you can meet the deadlines. Non-participation may result in being asked to purchase the pattern.
- All patterns are for personal use only. Sharing, selling, or distributing the patterns or finished garments is strictly prohibited by copyright law.

What will you receive?
While I’m unable to offer monetary compensation, I deeply value my testers' contributions. As a pattern tester, you’ll receive:
- The final, watermark-free PDF sewing pattern after successful testing.
- Free updates, including expansion packs, for the pattern.
- The opportunity to learn new techniques, connect with other sewists, and create a garment you’ll love.

What does the test include?
You’ll receive:
- A layered A4/US letter PDF file for home printing and an A0 copy shop file.
- High-quality sewing instructions in English, complete with illustrations.
- Direct support from me throughout the testing period and access to the pattern tester group.

You are also welcome to join my Facebook sewing community: Silversaga Patterns.
