The Francesca dress is the perfect blend of romantic elegance and everyday versatility. Its tiered maxi design flows beautifully, featuring delicate rouleau shoulder straps, hidden inseam pockets, and a charming bow-tie back. Whether you're crafting a stunning party piece in luxe fabrics or a chic daily staple (a great excuse to finally use those lightweight cotton block prints), the Francesca dress has you covered. With its oversized silhouette and no-zipper ease, you’ll enjoy both comfort and style. Ideal for adventurous beginners, this pattern offers a fun and rewarding sewing experience.
Size range: EU34-54/UK6-UK26/US2-US24.
Sewing difficulty: This pattern is beginner-friendly. You’ll need to gather large fabric pieces, sew bias binding for the neckline, and create rouleau shoulder straps. A few steps involve hand sewing, but are optional. Pockets and a bow tie are optional.
Fabric suggestions: Choose a lightweight woven cotton fabric. The sample shown was crafted from a lightweight block print. Consider light and airy fabrics such as Indian block prints, Japanese lightweight cottons, cotton voile or similar materials. If you prefer a heavier fabric, it's advisable to first create a toile using a fabric of comparable weight to ensure the final dress isn't too heavy to wear. Additionally, you can leave out the tiers to reduce both the weight and volume of the dress if you're using a thicker fabric.
Fabric usage: Dress 3.25 meter (EU34) to 3.45 meter (EU54).
